Vintage Reborn

We are a mother and daughter sewing/design team which features vintage items in all our childrens' pieces making them truly one of a kind. We are Mar Vista, California natives who continue to shop local flea markets, sew, design and create in the area.

Look for us on MarVistaMom.com!
She is on Oprah Monday, April 27th, with Nate Berkus, we are mentioned under Mechie Children's Store in Mar Vista.

What's Happening Now
The CPSIA legislation has excluded cottons and vintage linens from the current lead testing laws, (no lead has been found in any fabrics in the USA). All plastic and metal based, notions and findings are suspect under the law and would require testing. As a Mom and Pop business, "Bloomies Kids" is technically defunct, due to the stringent standards, fees etc. being imposed on small business. Most of the small boutiques we sold to have already closed their doors unable to pay the testing fees required by the government. Testing fees currently range at $400 per hour, making it impossible to recoup costs. However we will keep you posted on our "crafting" status and what Washington, D.C. decides. Designing is our lifeline, under whatever name you call it .

Some of our designs, past and present.  We are happy to take custom orders, limited runs or turn your mother's antique linens into a special keepsake. Please contact Kathleen or Therese LeVasseur, at 310-259-8392 or email us at info@bloomieskids.com
Where Did You Go?
Good Question. Thanks to the overzealous and understudied actions of the US Government we were taken out by the newest piece of legislation meant to stop the lead paint problems in children's toys recently from China. Unfortunately, all children's clothing and items for kids under the age of 12 got rolled into the bill. The people who wrote this law are not involved in the garment, crafting or toy manufacturing industries, but are having a knee jerk reaction to admittedly, a very serious problem. As a mother, I am also very concerned. As a business owner, I am appalled at their lack of care and concern in this economy, that our own government would turn their backs on hard working Americans and not go after the real problem - in China! Yes, yes, trade issues, sticky political situations, crazy dictators.

Back To The Point
Technically "Bloomies Kids" is no longer in business, officially we are now "crafters". What this means for you is, we take orders from you privately. We make special orders, we certainly have more time, since many of our children's boutiques have closed due to this misguided legislation. Also, we are trying out new projects, so look for new creations outside of the kids world. We're not bitter, but ready to spread our wings a bit - you understand .

What The Future Holds
Look for more news on where me might be selling, blogging or our next adventure. Crafters never die - they just move onto another project. Also, if this legislation bugs you as much as it does us let your senators know about it. It is on hold until the end of the year and I'm sure they would LOVE to hear from you, Thanks!
